Over 115 consumers are served by our Adult Day training (ADT).
Our programs emphasize innovative ways to serve the disabled
through community participation experiences that focus on vocational outcomes.
It is the goal of the ADT program to provide competitive employment opportunities
to all who are able to participate and choose to do so.
The components comprising the program include Habilitation, Community Participation,
Physical and Nutritional Management and Extended/After School Care.
Habilitation:
This service offers consumers an opportunity to develop a variety of skills through individualized activities, including personal care, daily living, socialization, communication, sensory integration, motor development and choice making.
Community Participation
This service was developed to offer individuals an opportunity to develop employability skills within a variety of real life employment situations. Individuals are assessed in several employment skill areas and are encouraged to participate in a variety of volunteer opportunities that closely resemble "typical" work opportunities. The individuals are then further encouraged to explore employment opportunities based upon their successful community participation experiences. Currently 30 individuals are involved in work enclaves.
Physical and Nutritional Management
This service is designed to enhance the quality of life for persons in need of specialized physical and mealtime care. Following the recommendations of a Physical or Occupational Therapist, a plan is designed and implemented within the agency by a person certified in Physical and Nutritional Management.
Production
Businesses provide opportunities for individuals to perform contract work within the day training setting. At their facility, work includes assembly, fabricating, packaging, collating and bulk mailings. The Individuals are paid for this work based upon individual skill acquisition of the completed contract work. It is the desire of Manasota ARC, that future contract work be done at the work site of the business requesting our services. We committed to seeking competitive, individual opportunities rather than the stereotypic, segregated sheltered workshop settings.
Extended Care
An Adult After School/Extended Care Program is provided to trainable and profoundly mentally handicapped students from the Manatee County School System, age 18 and over, who are in need of after school services. They are to be enrolled in middle school or high school as students in the Exception Student Program and/or the ADT program. Structured recreational and social activities, vocational exploration, activities of daily living and life help skills are provided based upon individual need.
