Opportunities for People with Disabilities

Alternate School Services...

In cooperation with the Manatee County School Board, we teach students ages 11-22 as an alternative to the typical classroom experience.

As Parents and Education Professionals we seek alternatives for Students who remain in classroom settings that do not present the progress we would like to see. Our purpose is not only to help this student but to provide an alternative for those who might remain at home for lack of appropriate classroom placement.

Visions is an alternative school for students that have not met with much success in prior educational settings. Visions strives to meet that success with goals and standards that are both traditional and flexible. Our first goal is to develop a positive relationship with our students. Visions is committed to offering the student the attention that may not exist in the traditional classroom. Classroom sizes are limited to 20 Students per Educator and Assistants.

Vision’s target group is the student 18-22 with a current active Individual Education Plan (IEP) with Exceptional Student Enrollment (ESE). Our focus is on Educable Mentally Handicapped (EMH), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Asperger’s Syndrome and Specific Learning Disabled (SLD). Visions will work with Students, Parents, Guidance Counselors, Teachers and Professionals involved in the challenged student’s journey for success who want a learning and life skills environment that will enhance the greatest possibility for that success.

Visions continuing commitment to the student also includes a progress conference twice a year. Additional meetings can be arranged at any time by the student and the parent and can include anyone in the student’s support system.

Scholarships Available

In order to help even more students reach their potential, we participate in the McKay Scholarship for Students with Disabilities Program. The program provides Florida students with special needs the opportunity to attend a school such as Visions. As stated before if the student has a current active IEP and is in ESE they are eligible for this scholarship opportunity.

The amount of the scholarship is equal to the amount the student would receive for his or her assigned public school, or the amount of the private school’s tuition and fees, whichever is less. Students may use the scholarship until they return to a public school, graduate from high school, or until they turn 22 years old.
